Creativity and Resilience in 2025: Leadership, Growth, and Grace

Happy New Year!

I use the term ‘happy’ loosely because, if I'm being 100% transparent, the weight of the world is heavy right now. Fires and snowstorms rage in different parts of the country, another school shooting leaves us grieving, injustices pile up like unwelcome reminders, and the tension between what’s lost and what’s left feels like too much sometimes. For some of us, happiness feels like a distant memory—something we’re still trying to wrap our hands around. This year didn’t enter with confetti and champagne. Instead, it crept in carrying grief, uncertainty, and a deep ache that has no words or sounds.

For me, this year isn’t about rushing to check off boxes or pretending everything is fine. It’s about moving with intention, honoring the process, and finding moments of joy in the midst of the chaos. Slow and steady, done with excellence. That’s the motto I’m holding onto this year.

Leaning Into Creativity and Resilience in 2025

One thing I know for sure: creativity has been my saving grace. I’m pouring myself into a collection of short stories and poems that feel like a balm to my soul. My next children’s book is slowly coming together, and filmmaking—my first love—has been calling me back in ways I didn’t expect. There’s something healing about creating in the midst of uncertainty. It’s a way of reclaiming joy and making space for hope.

I’m also dreaming about new ways to bring creativity to others. One idea that’s been tugging at my heart is curating creative respite retreats for Black women—a safe space to exhale, reconnect with our passions, and simply be. It’s still in the brainstorming phase, but I’m excited about the possibility of bringing it to life this year.

Reflecting on She Ventures Out

This month, I had the honor of being a guest on Qiana Williams’ podcast, She Ventures Out Podcast. It’s always humbling to share my story, but Qiana has a way of pulling out the lessons and turning them into inspiration for her audience. We talked about what it means to juggle motherhood, creativity, and a full-time career while staying grounded in purpose. I shared some thoughts on timing—how it’s never too late to chase your dreams and how life’s detours often prepare us for the stories we’re meant to tell.

If you’ve ever felt like you’ve missed your moment, I encourage you to listen to this episode. It’s a reminder that we are all works in progress and that our timing doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. You can catch the full episode here.

Taking on a New Role

On a different note, I’ve stepped into a new leadership role as president of the Columbus chapter of Mocha Moms. It’s a big responsibility, and truthfully, I’m a little nervous. But I’m learning to trust in the quiet power of showing up authentically. Sometimes leadership isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room—it’s about being consistent, intentional, and leading with heart. My prayer is that everything I do in this role reflects that.

Introducing The Writing Lab with Michelle Farley

This year, I’m also focusing on using my talents to help others—without a price tag attached. It’s all part of embracing creativity and resilience in 2025, a theme I’m carrying throughout my personal and professional life. That’s why I’m launching a new series on my YouTube channel starting in February: The Writing Lab with Michelle Farley. This series will cover everything from basic grammar lessons to how to write a book. It’s open to everyone, and I can’t wait to share what I’ve learned over the years.

The first video launches on February 3. If you haven’t already, subscribe to my YouTube channel and click the bell for notifications so you don’t miss a single update!

I’ll be honest—it’s been a while since I’ve done online video content, so I’m easing back into being in front of the camera. The videos might not be perfect at first, but consistency and doing the work I’m called to do are my main priorities. I’m confident that with time, the content will only get better. For now, my focus is on showing up and serving.

Holding Space for Both Joy and Grief

I’m also learning that it’s okay to hold space for both joy and grief. Life is messy, and sometimes the tension between what’s good and what’s hard is where we find our strength. So if you’re entering this year feeling both grateful and overwhelmed, know that you’re not alone. Take a deep breath. Extend yourself some grace. Trust that you are seen and held, even in the in-between moments.

This year, I’m choosing to move at a pace that feels right for me. To create with purpose. To lead with love. To honor the tension and embrace the journey. Here’s to a year of slow, steady steps forward—done with excellence.

Until next time,

Michelle
