My Value Isn’t Tied to My Task List: A Love Letter to Myself

Writer: Michelle FarleyMichelle Farley

In the quiet moments before the day begins, when the world is still and the only sound is my own breath, I find myself in the stillness. It’s in these precious minutes that I remember: I am not the sum of my tasks. I am not defined by the number of boxes I check off, the emails I send, or the meetings I attend. My value doesn’t rise and fall with my productivity.

In these moments, as I pray, I am strong, I am heard, I am powerful. I am God's daughter, a reflection of His grace, love, and abundance. I am the embodiment of His strength, and through Him, I find my true value. My worth is not something to be earned or proven—it is inherent, divinely bestowed, and unshakeable.

I am here not just to do, but to be, and in that being, I manifest the fullness of God's love and purpose for my life.

There’s a seductive rhythm to busyness—one that society tells us to dance to if we want to be seen, if we want to be valued. The endless cycle of doing, doing, doing can become a measure of our worth. But I’m learning to break free from that dance. My value isn’t tied to my task list—it goes far beyond it. This summer, I decided to step out of the hustle and listen to my own heartbeat. It’s a beat that reminds me I am valuable because I exist, not because of what I produce.

I am learning that my worth is in the love I give, the joy I find in simple pleasures, the wisdom I share with my son, and the quiet strength I offer to those around me. It’s in the way I nurture my dreams, the way I laugh with my husband, and the way I embrace myself—flaws and all.

My worth is in the stories I create, the connections I foster, and the peace I find in just being. It's in the moments when I allow myself to breathe without guilt, to rest without the nagging feeling that I should be doing more. I am valuable because I am, not because I do.

This summer, I have chosen to believe in my inherent worth, to stop measuring myself by the weight of my accomplishments and instead, to celebrate the essence of who I am.

I am not a list of tasks. I am not a human doing. I am a human being, and that is more than enough.

So, I give myself permission to be. To exist in a state of grace, knowing that my value isn’t something that needs to be earned—it’s something that simply is. My value goes beyond tasks, and that, in itself, is everything.

And that, in itself, is everything.
